Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park
Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest and oldest national park, famous for the dramatic Murchison Falls where the Nile River squeezes through a narrow gorge. Established as a game reserve in 1926 and later gazetted as a national park.
It offers breath-taking scenery, diverse wildlife, and is a top safari destination in East Africa. The Park is situated in north-western Uganda, along the Albertine Rift Valley and it Covers about 3,840 km², making it the largest national park in Uganda. The Centrepiece of then park is Murchison Falls, often called "the world's most powerful waterfall". Here, the Nile River forces itself through a 7-meter-wide gorge, plunging 43 meters into the "Devil's Cauldron," creating thunderous rapids and mist.
Home to 76 mammal species including elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, and crocodiles. Over 450 bird species, such as the rare shoebill stork, African fish eagle, and kingfishers are all in the park.
The park's diverse habitats include savannah, woodland, riverine forest, and wetlands, supporting rich biodiversity all make the park number one Tourist centre.
