Rwenzori Mountains National Park, also known as the "Mountains of the Moon," is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in western Uganda, famous for its snow-capped peaks, glaciers, lakes, and unique alpine vegetation. Covering nearly 1,000 km², it is home to Africa's third-highest peak, Margherita on Mount Stanley, and offers some of the continent's most challenging and scenic hiking experiences.
It is found in Kasese district in Western Uganda and Kasese town is the nearest gateway for most treks, lying along the Uganda–DR Congo frontier and was established in 1991 and designated by UNESCO as the World Heritage Site in 1994, covering about 998 km² (385 sq mi) and it features the Glaciers, waterfalls, rivers, and over 20 lakes around the mountain itself.
