Mountain Elgon National Park

Mount Elgon National Park was established in 1992 and is a spectacular protected area in eastern Uganda, famous for its ancient volcanic landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and rich cultural heritage. Covering about 1,110 km², the park is named after Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano with one of the world's largest calderas in Mbale and Kapchorwa districts, Eastern Uganda and it is about 235km (about 4-5hrs by road from Kampala)

Mount Elgon is Africa's tallest mountain, now standing at 4,321 m (Wagagai Peak) featuring the vast caldera, cliffs, caves, waterfalls, and gorges with a vegetation of Montane forest, bamboo, heathland, and moorland with giant lobelias and groundsels.

The park has mammals like the Elephants, buffaloes, duikers, forest monkeys, and hyraxes on addition to other tourist attractions. For birders, The Park has over 300 species, including the endangered Lammergeier (bearded vulture).

Hiking & Climbing to Trek to Wagagai Peak and across the caldera is one of the most wonderful experiences one can ever get in a lifetime.

Iconic waterfalls i.e. the Sipi falls, are just outside the park, popular for hiking and photography. The Ancient caves used by local communities and geothermal features or the Hot Springs create memories in one's life in addition to Cultural encounter of the Bagisu people, known for their Imbalu circumcision rituals.
