Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda's most popular safari destination, celebrated for its rich biodiversity, scenic landscapes, and unique wildlife experiences. The Park is found in western Uganda, stretching across Kasese, Kamwenge, Rubirizi, and Rukungiri districts.
It Covers about 1,978 km², making it Uganda's second-largest national park in Uganda, and it was established in 1952, originally named Kazinga National Park, later renamed in honor of Queen Elizabeth II. The Park features savannah plains, different crater lakes, wetlands, and tropical forests like the Maramagambo forest. The Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward, is a highlight for boat cruises.
The park lies within the Albertine Rift Valley, offering dramatic views of the Rwenzori Mountains. It hosts nearly 100 mammal species, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and Uganda kobs, and it is famous for the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha sector with over 600 bird species, making it one of the best birding spots in Africa.
