Kibale Forest National Park is Uganda's primate capital, renowned for its lush tropical rainforest and the highest diversity of primates in East Africa. The park is situated in western Uganda, near Fort Portal town, covering about 795 km² and dominated by dense tropical rainforest mixed with patches of savannah and swamp.
Kibale Forest National Park was established in 1993 to protect its rich biodiversity.
Famous for its 13 primate species, including chimpanzees, Red Colobus monkeys, L'Hoest's monkeys, and olive baboons. It hosts over 1,500 chimpanzees, making it the best place in Uganda for chimpanzee tracking. Other mammals include forest elephants, bush pigs, and antelopes. Birdlife is abundant, with over 370 species, including the African grey parrot and the great blue turaco.
