This 9-day southwestern Uganda safari perfectly blends dramatic wildlife encounters, primate trekking, and scenic relaxation. You will start with savanna game drives and a unique walking safari among herds of zebras and giraffes in Lake Mburo, before heading deep into the misty rainforests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for an unforgettable mountain gorilla trekking experience. After the intensity of the forest, you will unwind by canoeing and swimming in the tranquil, island-dotted waters of Lake Bunyonyi, followed by an adventurous trek to find rare golden monkeys against the backdrop of the stunning Virunga Volcanoes in Mgahinga National Park.

• • Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, Dial-Us Tours and Travel representative will receive you and transfer you to the hotel in Kampala for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, we set out on a 4 hours’ drive to Lake Mburo National Park where we will go on a game drive in search of Eland antelopes, zebras, impalas and many acacia- associated birds. We will also visit some of the lakes within the park where hippos, crocodiles and variety of water birds will be seen. After lunch, we crown off the afternoon with a boat ride on the lake. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Canoe excursion

Enjoy an early breakfast, embark on your journey across the beautiful landscape, the rolling hills, cultivated terraces, tropical rainforest. Lake Bunyonyi is one of the only lakes around where you can swim safely, here you will have time to relax, swim, go for a ride in a dugout canoe or just sit by the side of the pool and read a book. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Touring the 29 Islands of Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, we set out on a 4 hours boat cruise across Lake Bunyonyi known to be one of the safest deepest lakes in Africa. There are no crocs, hippos, or risk of bilharzia.
Instead, the island is home to over 200 species of birds. Grab a notepad and binoculars and spend hours discovering everything from weaver birds to grey-crowned cranes. It’s the perfect place for bird enthusiasts.
Spending an afternoon on the water spotting marine life, you’ll be pleased to hear that African clawless otters and spotted-necked otters reside at the lake. There are also various frogs, fish, and shrimp.
In the surrounding islands, you can find monkeys and zebras.On top of wild and marine life, vegetation is plentiful and the lake bursts with papyrus, swamp sawgrass, and blue lotus.
The lake encircles 29 islands, each overflowing with stories. However, 3 are spoken about most frequently: Akampene, Bwama, and Njuyeera.Enjoy the great experience of the selected islands and return to lodge for meals and relaxation.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi for Gorilla Trekking.

After breakfast, you will proceed to UWA visitor’s reception where briefing is done before tracking. It takes a few minutes but you leave with gorilla etiquette. Walk and hike this steep and slippery terrain until you meet the family gorilla. Enjoy this one hour allowed in the company of the brilliant giants! Looking into the eyes of one of the magnificent creatures brings home the distressing fact that they are on the edge of extinction, and that your presence contributes to ensuring their continual survival. Depending on the duration of the track you can either head for Batwa cultural experience, relax at the lodge or enjoy another walk around the village with the breathtaking views of the Virunga Mountains. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Lake Mutanda

Enjoy an early breakfast, embark on your journey across the beautiful landscape, the rolling hills, cultivated terraces, tropical rainforest of Echuya Rain forest, particularly known for its high-quality bamboo, Yushania alpina. There are also areas of broad-leaved forest, Lake Mutanda is one of the only lakes around where you can swim safely, and here you will have time to relax, swim, go for a ride in a dugout canoe or go for evening hiking on sorounding hills. Later head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Touring the 15 Islands of Lake Mutanda

After breakfast, we set out on a 3 hours’ boat cruise across Lake Mutanda which contains 15 small islands. 'Mutanda Island' is inhabited by a clan called ‘Abagesera’. The Abagesera have built a church on the top of the island, where they welcome local worshippers who attend from the mainland.
Travel to the island in a traditional dug-out canoe or a boat. From here, you will be able to view the scenery from a different perspective and meet the locals. To engage with the culture, you can attend community walks, and visit the local church.
Brave adventurers can visit the Punishment Islands which used to house outcasts of the region’s society. It contains skeletal remains and some locals believe that it is haunted.
Even bolder visitors can head to Python Island for a chance to see the resident snakes.

If you want to get off the land and onto the water, canoeing is a great way to discover the lake. This is one of the more relaxing activities, as the water is known for being calm.
Glide through the tranquil waters from island to island. You may even be able to spot some birds and otters. Return to lodge after the touring for dinner and camp fire experience.

Day 8: Transfer Mgahinga National Park

After breakfast, we set out on a Game drive to Mgahinga Np.There are lots of things to see in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. From the endangered mountain gorillas to golden monkeys, three of the Virunga Volcanoes and unique flora and fauna. Here are the top attractions of Mgahinga National Park. that you should not miss.There are lots of things to do in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. From gorilla trekking to Volcano Hiking, Mgahinga is such a place where you can engage in several adventure activities. Later in the evening you will check-in at the Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 9: Return to Kampala

After breakfast you will check-out and begin your drive back to Kampala. Upon arrival in Kampala, you will be dropped off at your designated hotel in Kampala or Entebbe. This is where your safari will end.
